Abena’s Calcium Alginate Dressing features natural calcium alginate fibers and silver particles. These silver particles, in the form of encapsulated metallic silver, kill the bacteria in the dressing, are very stable, and will not be oxidized even on exposure to light. In combination with its high wet strength and antibacterial effect, the calcium alginate creates a protective gel when in contact with exudate. This helps maintain a moist wound healing environment, promote the healing process, and minimize bleeding. The gel-like surface helps keep the dressing from adhering to the wound.
